Hot Weekends And Bleak Summers (As The Song Goes)

Monday, March 26th, 2007

Well, didnt get up to much on Friday, which was boring. Ended up going the pub on Saturday with Ste, Shannon and Tony at 4pm. Stayed in there drinking till about 11-12ish, went to Ste’s for some more drinks and some rancid whisky shots  (blurgh…), and ended up in Jumpin Jacks in Wigan because i heard Stacy was out and i wanted to see her. Ended up having a good night, an got a taxi home with her and her brother and louise after some random lad who Louise pulled couldnt remember her name, what she did, anything haha and had to ask me. I nearly pissed myself laughing.  Got home at about 4-5am, and ended up working a 4pm-2am shift, hungover, which wasnt fun to say the least!

To Summarise : Web Servers = Gay

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

Well, Sam learned a valuable lesson today. Dont mess around too much with Apache! After faffing around all day and generally clogging my server up with multiple apache installs, i decided to format in order to tidy it up. For a laugh and while i was installing anyway, i put Suse 10.2 on as a SERVER O/S (gulp). Now, my thoughts :-

1. Looks very nice, has a very nice feel, and generally kicks Ubuntus ass on this point.

2. YaST (when working) makes it VERY easy to configure servers. However, it has a very ‘microsoft’ feel to it, in the sense you get the feel it says its working when it actually isnt.

3. Runs faster than Ubuntu (in my opinion).

4. Would make a very nice Desktop system, but not a server O/S. For one im too unfamiliar with it (being no apt-get for one).

So i decided to go back to Ubuntu, and for some reason my NAT Firewall settings are unable to be retrieved from my backup, so ive had to redo ALLLL that again, which doesnt impress me, at all.

And conundrum number 10,000 : My Ubuntu server for the last 3 weeks or more has had an ip of 10.0.12.98, i format OS’s, and now it has an ip of 10.0.12.25. Why? I find this very strange, a reinstall of an OS shouldnt change my MAC address lol…

Localisation

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

Well, havent been up to much recently. Installed MySQL on my server, with the intention of making a localised version of this wordpress on my Apache webserver for testing purposes. Going home Friday, for Hares for the Wigan game and Queens after to celebrate the win!

Well it would seem that my dream job application just dropped through my letter box, 3 months after signing a contract with Intel. Im pretty, aggrieved to say the least.

“Reuters Firewall Engineer”,

“The role is with the Reuters Network Security Implementation and Support team. This group provides Operational support to all firewalls in the main UK data centres. The group’s focus is the maintenance of secure service delivery across large diverse networks. In addition to support this group also deploy all new firewalls and manage all issues related to network security on the data centre networks.”

Well, spent the whole day coding java, as our projects got to be in 20th April ish, and ive not made a start. As usual Matts done nothing to help.

We have to make a games compendium, consisting of 3 games. At the moment, ive finished one (near enough), and im going to start researching the other soon.

Guiness!

Well, went The Pav last night with Joe and Connor originally, ended up meeting the Enforcer there and eventually Dodge and The General, as Connor and Joe had to go pick up Connors missus from the airport. Drank a lot and ended up at home about 1ish, after me and the Enforcer hit up the kebab good and proper! Woke up this morning to find Emmas had to go back into hospital yet again, which really sucks cos its like the 4th time she’s had to, and its really getting her down i feel. It really puts life into perspective.
