Saturday, October 27th, 2007

Havent been up to anything recently at all. Went out with the Lads on Thursday to celebrate Toma’s birthday! Was a pretty good night, some funny shit happening but all in all a good un! Got my new phone on Friday, the Sony Ericsson k850i, which is verrrrrry sweet indeed! Loads of cool stuff in it etc. Bought myself a 4GB memory stick for it today, so i can get the most out of it, plus its pay day on Monday, woooo!

Had a meeting on Friday about i32, so will be working on the Intel stand for it on Thursday, Friday and Saturday! Free bar at night etc, awesome.

Fixing Things and Bickering

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

Well, didnt do much this week except fix the things i broke at the weekend and try and repair a few burnt bridges!

Its been a rather eventful week on the social front, a lot of bitching going on, and a certain girl selling both me and Jamal out to the other girls as people that we arent. So naturally, those that know what im like, will know what i would normally react like, and i did. We got our own back, and we’re going to get some more next week. People need to learn!

Went to the pub quiz on Thursday which was good fun, with Brad, Aaron, Andy Li and The Wonderkid Gabriel on our team. We somehow didnt win the damn thing, much to Lockwoods amusement! Even though we cheated on every question lol! Fix i tell you.

Steam and WiMAX

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

Well, went out on Thursday night with Jamal and the boys as usual. Was very messy, again as usual! Some crackin pictures on Facebook if anyone wants to look lol! Was in work doing the Wimax stuff on Friday and chilled out at night. Did nothing Saturday day, went to Steam / Spot with everyone on Saturday night but came home early because i was in work all day today!

Unfortunately for us, everything that could go wrong today did. Servers, Switches, you name it, none of it wanted to work, meaning our glorious project went up in smoke :( So im not impressed at all at the moment.

Going To I Series

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Irwell Memories

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

Just been catching up with Martin, one of the infamous 36′ers crew from last year and thought i’d put up some of the daft shit we did last year so i dont forget lol :-

1. Coming home from Wigan to find that Matt had erected a chute from his room to the downstairs bin, so he didnt have to get up to empty his bin lol. Ended up getting chopped down because he never emptied the downstairs bin.

2. Sliding down 2 flights of stairs on a mattress stolen from an empty room.

3. Waking up at 6pm 5 days in a row, and going to Asda to do the weekly shopping at 5am lol…

4. Having ridiculously complex networking configurations in a house for 6, including 3 routers! Cables where fired over the house from one room to the other using a 3 man slingshot and an apple!

5. Coming home from Joes bday, and smashing the light with a bottle because i couldnt be arsed to get up for the light switch lol

6. Having the kitchen become so dirty it nearly became condemned and us nearly getting evicted

… More to come…

Goings On and Stuff

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

Well, been a pretty busy few days to be honest!

Thursday-  Went to the Spot with Jamal and Andy Li, after drinking 2 bottles of wine in 10 minutes beetween us for warm-up! Needless to say it was a pretty eventful nights with Lockwood getting a massive lovebite on his neck haha.

Saturday- Went to Steam with everyone to watch the England match (get in), decided to go for a curry afterwards with Raj and Gabe in the Kyhber which was nice. Ended up in Savoy watching the New Zealand game before stumbling home at 12 which wasnt bad!

Also, from a Tech point of view, i thought i’d give Linux another chance at being my desktop as im sick to death of Vista, so below is my…report if you will:-

+- Vista = Very gimmicky indeed. It looks good, like Suse, but like Suse it doesnt do much compared to other flavours. The main benefits of Vista compared to XP are 1. Ipv6 (which no-one uses) 2. Hard drive encryption (again, no one uses) 3. Media centre (Which is crap, i might add), and a few gimmicky GUI tools. Couple that with the fact that, A) Lots and lots of hardware isnt supported, i.e. Webcams, TV Cards, etc. B) Its so resource inefficient its untrue and C) XP is a lightweight version, does the same job, less hassle and a lot easier.

Now, onto Suse 10.3. A year ago to this very month, i installed Suse 10.1 (IIRC), and after a weekend of trying to make it work i gave up, due to the sheer fact that it is so unfugging usable. DEVELOPERS – You cannot expect average joe users, even techies like myself to go into a config file buried in the OS just to enable dual screen, coupled with the fact its not really dual screen because you cant span applications across them or even drag apps across. When you start to take the Redmond philosophy into account with its usability and assumptive knowledge then you will start to make headway in the home user market. At the moment, there is a distinct lack of support from Vendors, ATI, Creative, etc. There is a lack of effort from developers to make anything remotely simple, and to be honest, Windows is still dicking all over Linux in the Desktop market and will continue to do so forever until the Heads start to sort out their roadmaps.

In summary, Vista – Like XP but with gimmicks and stuff nobody is using.  Suse- totally unusable.

My suggestions, XP for Desktop, stick with Ubuntu for Server (Desktop what matt says about Gentoo and Solaris).

Stress Stress Stress

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

Well, i thought i’d find time to blog during one of the most stressful weeks of Intel so far. Didnt do much at the weekend, went out Saturday night for a little bit but it was crap so i came home early. Didnt do anything on Sunday except chill out and chat to people mainly! Have been BINGE learning IOS recently, really starting to kick on with it now, woo. Although i am starting to see people as 0’s and 1’s ive been looking at a CMD box for so long. 0 1 1 1 0…..
