No Im Not Dead

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Alzo,

Im back online after a 21 day hiatus! Was in Turkey for 9 days, which was pretty fun! Im not going to write all about it, but to sum up:

  • Great things to do during the day, weather was awesome, beach was quality, good laugh
  • Turkish hotel people SUCK – they are the biggest arseholes known to man (yes, its a sweeping generalisation, but when 10/10 are that way, you can understand my basis)
  • Turkish hospitality is none existent, they dont get social rules and how to conduct yourself
  • Nightlife was rubbish – we found one nice, classy bar in the whole resort – the rest was just Blackpool-with-heat; neon lights, empty clubs, and…
  • EXPENSIVE drinks – not cheap at all. This is why i wouldnt recommend it!

To summarise, great fun, great during the day, nightlife – not so much! All in all a very fun holiday though, including our own private boat :) Travelling home on Sunday night / Monday morning was the biggest ballache ever – we had to get a transfer at 4am, wait until 7am to board our flight- which got delayed for an hour, we then spent 4 hours 40 on a plane to Bristol, add another 1 hour transfer from Bristol to Swindon and it was a horrible journey! Everyone was exhausted – at one point it was only me and Shaun awake on the whole coach! We had a Harold and Kumar moment in BK after the journey – XL everything, it was the nicest meal ever – followed by an 18 hour sleep, great success.

Since returning to work its been back to normal! No more 36oC heat, good old technology, and proper beers and food. Mmm.

Speaking of technology – new acquisitions are, a secondary ESX server, based upon a S5000PSL motherboard with a 700Watt PSU and 2 x Xeon 5355 CPU’s. All i need now is FB-DIMMS!!!! Also, i got an Intel BadAxe desktop motherboard, and a uATX Media Centre case which im looking to build out soon.

Finally, a rather geeky note – back in high school in 2001, we used to play runescape, a lot, and with all my department talking about World of Warcraft and all these rather geeky games, i went onto Runescape.com to see if my character was still there. After trying to recover password 5 times (my recover password questions were the original ones from 8 years ago, like “where is my favorite holiday destination?” (i dunno?), i managed to guess correct and got my character back! Level 71 aswell, with kick ass high levels just as i remember lol. Good fun – i think im starting to get hooked on it again though so i need to be careful!!

Shopping and Turkalurk

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Havent done much at all this week – we had Monday off for bank holiday, so we just relaxed around and didnt do much! Played footy on Tuesday and Wednesday and watched the England game afterwards.

Went out with Raj for Becky and Jams leaving do on Thursday for a couple of hours which was fun, but generally a rather monotonous week!

Went to “Cribbs Causeway” in Bristol at the weekend which was fun – spent 6 hours shopping and spent £300 on clothes and Lira for my Turkey holiday on the 9th which is going to be great fun!

Aside from that, i havent done anything technical / interesting. My G15 got delivered on Friday, so installed that and generally fiddled with it all weekend. Im building Toma’s new PC for him this weekend, so hopefully that will quench my technical thirst!

And finally, what is up, with recruiters who cannot BLOODY READ! My CV, on Monster, fish4 etc, states i am looking for part-time work as i am a student until june 2009. YET, they still ring me with jobs offers, A) in the wrong area, B) The wrong FIELD (Im not a C# developer im a network and server engineer!!!), and C) For the wrong time period! It is absolutely infuriating to be rang about a job offer when you have clearly ignored my CV and done a word scan on it for “C#, Virtualisation’.
