Last week was fairly quiet – we didnt get up to much! Spent all week working with users which was *gritting teeth* fun :) to say the least! Just keep thinking about the money eh.

On the personal networking front – we have decided to go even more mental at home and purchase a 28U rack to house our networking and server infrastructure (3 NAS’s, 3 ESX servers, Media server, 3 24-port switches, L3 switch, L2 Fibre Switch, VPN etc). You may think this is excessive – but everyone in our house are computer science / server / networking based students therefore this is how we learn!

I will get pictures up soon, but suffice to say it looks awesome and it is not only a lot quieter, but a lot cooler (temperature wise) and stops people tripping up over cables.

Finally, i spent friday/sat/sunday in Birmingham with Fran – went up there on Friday on the train and met her at the station which was nice – spent the day chilling in her room and just moping – and went out at night for a meal at Nandos (wooooop) and then to the cinema (Pineapple Express is rubbish BTW!).

Went to the pub on Saturday to meet her friends and watch the united and liverpool game (bloody bin dippers), and had a nice meal and a few drinks on Saturday night in her place. Came home on Sunday to more networking madness which is always a laugh-  thinking of making a pun-site called “Network Hero”, a play on Guitar Hero, to note down our stupid network acts and musings! :)

Adios!

Goings on and Waiting for Exam Results

Its been a while since i last blogged, so i thought i’d get some documenting!

I’ve been working 4-5 days a week 9-6/7pm in some cases. I spent the last week working on a client site in Liverpool (city centre) installing thin clients, servers etc. This included spending 2 hours trying to figure out how to get server-rack rails into a data-rack! Not as easy as it sounds.

Aside from this, we’ve just been generally getting on with life. We’ve had 2 sunday dinners in succession – im talking full topside of beef, roasties, puds, veg, you name it. The tradition is well and truly started. This normally follows a heavy night of Saturday drinking with me, matt, martin, dave, fi and normally Emma but not the last time! We’re just waiting for uni to start again before we start to get more and more people involved!

Aside from drinking and eating, we’ve been doing more and more networking. We decided to migrate all the NAS’s to the front room near the VM server – and use a fibre channel switch using fiber NIC’s to interconnect them giving me a 28.8MBps download speed to my PC – which is fast. We had a few issues though, as we are trunking 4 VLAN’s down into the fibre switch and tagging them onto each specific fiber port. However for some reason the NAS traffic wasnt getting to our PC’s – 0 packets, not even any hello/broadcast/anything packets! It turned out that after 2 hours of investigating we had overlooked the PVID section on the fibre switch (doh). After setting this – everything worked a charm and we now have 3, Fibre-interconnect VLAN NAS’s :) Will get pictures up later.

Other than that, i’ve been playing a lot more CS:Source – still kicking ass lol its too easy some times. SteamID is t3h_l33tz0r if anyone i know wants to add me!

Later.
